L3T-0, or sometimes known as Leto, was re-initialized shortly after the formation of the Rebel Alliance, when their agents raided old Republic supply caches on a far-flung planet somewhere in the Outer Rim. Found amongst a variety of decommissioned protocol and astromech droids, Alliance technicians didn’t know what to make of L3T-0. It appeared he was a likely prototype, for very little could be gleaned about his specific model and designation. However, records from before the Republic’s fall placed the droid’s service in the Diplomatic Corp.
Upon activation, L3T-0 addressed his liberators with the synthetically smooth and flawless speech pattern of a droid designed for sentient interaction. The droid explained about his adjunct role in some of the most hostile negotiations the Republic had before and even during the Clone War. With further questioning, the rebel technicians were able to discern that L3T-0 was a wealth of knowledge about countless cultures within the galaxy, and stranger still, an apt judge of the tactical strength and weaknesses of many known military powers.
What Leto kept to himself were the gaps in his data core. Sections of his core were stubbornly locked away, and no matter his probing, refused to open, hard-locked to some password or algorithm not in his possession. Yet, he knew that the functions for which the Alliance now used him were merely secondary directives. Leto’s primary functions, as well as a large part of his memory, remained disturbingly hidden behind that unyielding wall of code.
